Price Comparison of funeral costs in Northeast Ohio

To enable consumers to make as fair a price comparison as possible, the Cleveland Memorial Society has conducted price surveys in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2023 of funeral homes in Northeast Ohio. For each survey, we request General Price Lists (GPLs) from 40 to 60 funeral homes, including the most-highly-utilized homes as determined by an analysis of death notices in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The most recent GPL data from each funeral home is posted on our “Funeral Prices by County” page. Our 2023 survey is still in progress, and we update our results as GPLs are received.

The results of the survey demonstrate a significant variation in price for funeral services. Looking at survey data collected in 2023, Direct Cremation prices range from $725 to $4373. Immediate Burial prices range from $995 to $4985. Full Service Funerals range from $3580 to $9420. You can save a significant amount by considering several funeral homes, and our price survey can help you find nearby funeral homes with reasonable prices. Of course, CMS members always benefit from our contracted prices, currently $845 for Direct Cremation and $1025 for Immediate Burial. The CMS Immediate Burial price includes a casket of the director’s choosing, the survey prices do not.
